Old Rubber

I am about to buy several rubbers for my wagon.
After doing some comparisons, it appears that one stands out.

Scott's Old Auto Rubber.
Oakleigh in Victoria.

Tailgate $86.44, Rear sides wagon $134.85 ea, and front quarter glasses $54.89 ea.

Better priced than Rare Spares and significantly better that Clark Rubber, for these items.
On other items, Rare Spares were better, and general rubber from Clark.

Has anyone brought rubbers from Scott's before ? :? :?
And how good were they ? :? :?

A couple of blokes in the NSW club, including Mephious, have bought rubbers from Scotts and are very happy with them.

Not so with the Rares rubbers

We have a restorers hotline store here in Perth , I have used their rubbers and they fit well. They are NOT the same rubbers that Rares use.

Hi guys I got a full rubber kit from a place in Christchurch NZ half were beta auto and the door rubbers rare spares ,the door rubbers are just sh#t had them all glued on and fitted doors not even close to closing, some guys say you gotta slam the doors to get them to shut, pointless having doors if you gota slam them shut, after getting all pissed off with them I ripped them off scraped off the glue and ordered Scott's Old Rubbers for the doors ,these fit much better have doors back on ,just gotta fine tune the adjustments but at least I can push the doors shut and only a little bit of pressure on the rubbers and they look much better too,a nice profile of rubber cheers go,the code for inner door rubber is 260.009 and outer 260.048 and Scott was great to deal with cheers goat

Finally I'm ready, and need to order my rubber kit this week.

I looked at Rare Spares, American Auto Parts (Rares reseller?), Scotts Old Auto Rubber, Better Auto Rubber (Gold Coast) and a local supplier Rubber Kits (Brendale, Brisbane). Does anyone have another (Good) supplier that I missed? :?: :?: :econfused:

Narrowed it down to Rare Spares, Better Auto Rubber and Rubber Kits.

After doing an updated check It appears that pricing for whole kits really doesn't vary much, when you compare apples with apples. :)
They varied slightly in the items included, but when standardised where within $100 of each other, haven't looked at freight yet.
Although Rubber Kits included Stainless Steel Bailey channels instead of plain soft.

I gather the quality control may be an issue for Rares but service is very high (replace if doesn't fit/work).
Just wondering if anyone has had any feedback on quality and/or service regarding, Better Auto Rubber or especially Rubber Kits.

I have listed an FB EK Sedan rubber kit as you can see Rare Spares makes all these parts, the ones listed as only from what I understand Rare Spares are the only manufacturer , the ones listed not sure if someone else make means Rare Spares make them but I am not sure if they are made by another company. So were ever you buy your rubber kit from you will have Rare Spares parts included. I do believe Rare Spares door seals are the only moulded ones on the market not like the glued together ones that are in the cheaper kits. BTW Stainless steel Bailey Channel is a lot more expensive than the soft later model Bailey Channel

Thanks Les. :)

I did a trial using the old rubbers I had removed and a new one. I can see what others had mentioned previously.
The old rubber fitted exactly and the one for the front door even expanded to fill the big gap in the top corner.

The new rubber was too thick and really stuck out. Even if firmly put in the profile was much bigger and will always stick out.
And the top part was way to long. (would need to cut and glue it back together to fit.)

This was how the Old Rubber sits

Now wondering if I should clean up as many of the old rubbers as I can and re-use them.
Then I'll just order the ones I no longer have.

To me it looks like the rubber maybe upside down it is hard to tell from the picture, they are basically the same as an FC door seal and the FE FC club of Victoria has been very happy with them when fitted correctly . If you like you can call Lance Corby at Rare Spares 03 93036400 in Melbourne he has fitted many of these seals and may be able to tell you why they are not fitting correctly.
Also have a look here
http://www.rarespares.net.au/ShedTalk/W ... DzGZfeokAg
If there is any thing else we can do let me know sort of flying up there to help you fit them. you can also email me on lmcveigh@rsp.net.au
