Dual layer floor ?

I seem to notice that my car has two layers in the floor.
A upper panel they you see from the inside.
And a separate layer/panel that you see from underneath.
Only noticed it in the rear seat floor area.
Like two separate skins ?
Is that normal ?
I can see the the front floor at teh drivers feet is only one layer.
Were does it become only one.

Hi Finny,
From my experience with the wagon there is only one layer of floor. There is a small section that runs the width of the car under the front seat where the front and rear floors overlap and are spot welded together. There is also sections of underfloor bracing that you will want to keep.
Have a look at some of the pics in my thread
http://www.fbekholden.com/forum/viewtop ... sc&start=0 around pages 5,6 and 7.
On page 2 I found a "second" layer of floor....

which was basically a previous patch job.

Thanks Stewart.
Page 3 is where you showed the rear floor.
From the top (on mine) it looks normal.
However just did a check and I seem to have half inch of space between two layers.
I can see from underneath that it has some minor rust holes.
A whole front back layer seems to have been added, driver and passenger sides.
Can see the addition now.

Sounds like someone replaced the floors the lazy way. Rather than cut out the old ones they placed the new ones over the top!

No worries. Maybe a previous owner wanted a double 'glazing' floor to try and cut down noise...

A bit like my rear floor
It looks like theyve cut the rusted section out, then laid the new floor over the old one and welded

You all seem to be on the money.
Took a much closer look.
From the inside it all looks good.
But you can see the welds, which I don't think are original.
But from underneath, it's a little different.
Rear drivers side and front passenger side have a small number of rust holes in them.
It doesn't appear to have any current rust, (been treated and stopped).
Overall it's fairly good, but you can see the remaining holes.
Not really bad, but not a good look, and a water/dirt entry point.
Apart from cutting out those sections from underneath. (A real pain)
Any other ideas for filling to stop water getting inside ? a good way ?

Seam sealer might work.
