Rear Axle Seal

Hi guys,
I'm replacing my rear wheel bearings on my FB and noticed that my diff housing doesn't have a stepped section to seat an inner seal
And the axles previously didn't run an inner seal?
My question is , do FB's run an inner seal or is this only on EJ and after?
I have previously seen an FB that had an inner seal on one side only?
