movement between the steering box and shaft tube

hi all just wondering if anyone has experienced movement between the steering box and steering shaft . if i turn the wheel left to right where the shaft enters the steering box there is movement back and forth a couple of mms. the box is tight to the y frame and column is tight to the underside of the dash. any thoughts much appreciated.
