Fuel Smell

I filled my tank up last night (right to the top) and noticed today when I went to move the car that there was a moderate smell of fuel floating about.
When I opened the boot to clean it out and bathe it in fish oil, the smell was stronger....coming mainly from that sender unit (?) in the photo.
There were no visible leaks, though there was a bit of grit around it which was slightly moist.
Is this normal if the tank is filled right up?

Cal you might want to check for pin holes in the top of the tank and around the sender. I have a couple of small holes near the sender and my car gets a real fuelly smell.
It helps to leave the windows cracked slightly till the level drops.

Thanks Devilrod, I'll check for that. I hopped in and had a quick whiff around........it was mainly from around the sender.
Is there any quick fix, apart from not filling it right up?
Mind you, any fuel smell that may have been there has been overtaken by the fish oil smell........the car stinks!!

It might be that, as the gasket looked pretty rooted and the smell was heaviest around there.
I presume they are easy to change?

If you can undo a few screws and lift the sender out then yes
Very easy, the cover just prises off with a screwdriver.

as DR basically said hardest part is undoing the screws that i know of you can't buy the gasket you have to get some cork and make yor own not to hard

Thanks DNA....though I'm gonna have to learn how to do it sometime.
Ratbox, Spectrum do have them......though they are out of stock at the moment.
I'll find out tomorrow when they expect them in when I go to pick up my boot rubber.
Hopefully I can put that in without f*&^#*g something up
