New member acotters - pic of the car

Hello all.
I'm new to the forum and the club. Thought I'd pop in a quick photo of the new pride and joy.
In this pic it still has the original SA plates on it. Will soon be registered in Vic as HOL620. Trying hard to make it for Hanging Rock day.

Hi Guys. Thanks for writing.
Yes, it is the EK recently advertised on ebay as "Grandpa's Car". This fella bought it new and has kept it totally original since. The son-in-law sold it off as gramps is now too old to drive. Lucky for us the son-in-law has no idea.... Still has the owner's manual and FB shop manual. I am the second owner.
Chrome is in really good condition. Paint has aged but came up okay with a quick polish. I have been told a product called "Ferecla" or similar is the stuff to use to bring the paint up. No plans for a restoration at the moment, it doesn't need it.
I have cleaned up the front seat and door trims, and have been unable to get the greasy handprint off the seat. Any suggestions?? Obviously I have started cleaning the engine bay from the left side of the photo.
I have a million photos already, too much time to post them all on woop-woop dial-up speeds.

Great score on the EK Andrew. Welcome to the forum too. With the greasy handmarks try ye old cake of soap . I've used Sards Wonder Soap with success on vinyl. Do a bit where you cant see first to see what happens and go light on the water as it can rot the stitching.

Bloody nice EK there Andrew.Saw it on Ebay a while back.Good to see its gone to an appreciative owner.Hang on to those old S.A. number plates if you can,they are part of the cars history and are a rare plate to find now.If you didn't plan on keeping them and were allowed by S.A. rego authorities to sell them they could be worth some $$$ to you.

Hi all.
Thanks for your replies and tips.
I still have the SA plates and will be keeping them as part of the cars originality and history. In keeping with originality, I got the custom plates to read HOL62O, which cost $495. I could have got cheaper plates, you know, the ones where you compress something like "fully sick V8 GMH 62 EK Special" into 6 characters, but that's not my thing. I sussed out that original plates of the era in Victoria started with "H", so the plates fit into my plan to keep it looking original.
Still spending a lot of time cleaning it up. It is surprisingly good underneath all the crud. Those who went to Hanging Rock on Sunday would have seen it.
I have realised that the engine bay photo didn't make it onto the page, I'm working on that.

Nice work Rod man.
You might then be disappointed to know that I thought it was a bit low in the back to begin with. Since re-doing the shackle bushes its bum is right up in the air now, so will be sorting that out soon.
Had one tyre go on me on the way over to Dandenong to get some work done, so the whitewalls might arrive sooner than later.
Will post a pic when they're on.
I'm trying to keep this old girl in original shape. If I started out with a pile of sh!te then I would be dumping it and doing all kinds of nasty things the General never intended. No lowering or V8 for this one I'm afraid....

Don't need a V-8, just a nicely detailed and warmed over grey would do mighty fine. Lowering always improves a car anyway. :roll: Maybe just not as much as I did in photoshop. :lol: :lol: :lol:

As for the blowout I'm guessing those old cross plies aren't quite what they used to be.
