Hi there all,

(I guess this is where this post goes?)
I have moved away from SEQ for work and for one reason and another, I have decided to leave my car in Brisbane. This has now provided me with a headache as the shed I have been storing the ol' girl in is no longer available. I have been generously offered storage space but none of it under cover.

So...

Does anyone know of cheap garage space going?

Of course I could rent a storage shed but then that eats into the pay packet. Am I being too tight? $230 per month is the cheapest I could find. I like the portable garage idea posted by Matches under Bettyispsycho's "leaky boot" thread but alas I have nowhere to put it and to be honest I wonder how it would go in SEQ's storm season.

Any ideas?

I'm no expert on car covers, but is there one that is 100% water proof so you can take the "not under cover storage" and wrap it up?

Yeah, there's a few that claim to be 100% water proof and I've gone for that option in the short term. I've gone for one that claims to be water proof and has ventilation holes etc. so that's a short term fix. I'm just a little sus on them that's all.

I'm off for at least another year. If things get desperate I will consider driving her up north after the wet season. Thing is, I will have the same problem up there, no garage. At least I would be able to keep a close eye on her and deal with any tropics based body deteriation / rust issues immediately.

I bought a shell awhile back that had been stored under a "100% waterproof, guaranteed!" car cover, and even with the ventilation, the combination of moisture buildup then sun heating it up again completely stuffed the roof on the car.

It was for a few years, granted, but the repetitive moisture spots ended up eating little holes into the paint and then the metal.



Reckon you need to find an old lady who doesn't use her garage at all, and in exchange for the space offer to pay Jim's Mowing to go around to her place and do her garden once a month or something....

Tim, the car is on the north side (Bald Hills / Brackenridge) and as of tonight, outside at a mate's place snugly tucked up in a very expensive cover. We dropped the car off and I pulled out my newly acquired car cover only to have it "snatched" away to be put on an old Chev in the already full garage. Of course this is no bad thing because my mate saw my purchase and said no no that will not do. He then pulled the cover off his Chev so the old girl could snuggle happily for a couple of weeks outside. The Chev now has an inferior but "adequate for indoors" $50 cover and the FB is well wrapped up in a $400 car cover. Not bad for a temporary / short term fix. Some people are just awesome.
