Hi guys, been lookin over my first FB, and this is what i saw, just tucked up against the steering column.

Is it the flasher can??
Shouldnt it be a little it more secured somehow??
There was two black wires twitched together, beside it, what would they be left like that for too??
Are they off the can? if thats what it is?

Or if it isnt, what is it ?

Thanks,

Although some electrical tape on the bare wires would be a good move.

hi mate the flasher wires are pretty simple, if the wiring is original or at least original colours you should have one yellow wire which runs from flasher up inside the steering column to your indicater stalk, a pink wire which runs from flasher to fuse panel and two black wires. one black wire runs from flasher to the left turn signals on the insrument panel and the other to the right so basically all they do is let you know your turning. So long story short they're not really needed unless you can be bothered. hope this helps and as for securing the can mine came with a clip on the right side of the steering column that it just pushes into

So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

If the Black wires are both twitched together, does that mean that the Green Dash indicators will both Flash at the same time,,,,,,,,because they do.

I was thinking that there would be a short, or a blown globe somewhere for that to happen??

So back to the black wires,,,,,on the flasher can, is there 2x seperate fittings for the Black wires, eg one for left Flasher and one for the right ??

well this just got a bit more complicated and could go on for a while so you better grab a cuppa or stubbyand please remember im not actually a sparky. Both black wires join to the same point which is the middle connector on the bottom of the flasher (obvious as it is the only one without wires on it) and this should not cause both dash indicators to blink at the same time as the cans only job is to cut the circuit at intervals, hence the blinking. If both are flashing at the same time you could have a short either in the wires or the flasher. Before you start pulling the car to pieces to find the short it might be easier just to replace the flasher, but if this doesnt work then here is how it should look. Behind the dash the indicator lights should have a black wire running to each and a dark blue to one side and light blue on the other. The dark blue runs from the indicator stalk down your steering column to a connector which then splits into four wires (three dk blue and a purple). The purple runs straight from there to the tail light and three blue to stalk, dash indicator and front blinker, light blue does the same except replace purple for pink. If you cant see a short in these then it might be inside the steering column at the stalk. Also check the yellow wire from the steering column to flasher and make sure it is ok. If all these things are alright then it might be in your indicator switch but that involves pulling the column apart so try this first and klet me know how you get on

Bus1211,

Have just consulted the wiring diagram in the trusty ol' EK shop manual.
The two black wires should both be connected to the 3rd terminal on the flasher can. This terminal should be labelled "P" (pilot).
It pumps power up to the dash turn indicators so that only one comes on.
Its a funny thing actually the right turn dash indicator is connected to the left turn wire of the blinker switch and vise versa.

check this out......

hope this helps

To use LED indicators you need a special flasher can. I got mine from vintage globes I think he is called. Jump on his site and ask away. He's cool. Will answer any question you have.
