Ok well I have 3 fuses which I am assuming it is normal,
I have turn signal which I think is a 25a fuse?
horn and cig lighter which i also believe is 25a fuse
and also stop & dome + radio
I noticed stop and dome was broken so i bought some more 25a fuses, I put on in and it blew, so I put another in and it did the same.
What type of fuse do I need for stop and dome?
and also what is stop and dome? is it the reason my brake lights dont work?
cheers
Jay

sounds like a short or a bad conection,, so the fuse is not the problem,,,its blowing to protect the car,, a bigger fuse could cause electrical fire , melting ect so fix it at the problem ,is got positive power going to earth somwhere

J Stop and dome are the brake light and the interior light if it blows as soon as you put it in and the door is open you will have a short in the interior light as Karsten said the fuse blowing stops the wiring catching fire

By short they mean the wire that feeds power to the interior light (or one of the buttons) is earthing out somewhere. trace the wires and see if any have rubbed through. if they are easy enough to replace do it, if not elec tape the split and it should last a while

Gday J
How long have you had this problem......since last weekend???
I just read your update on your
My First Car thread.
I see a fair bit of electrical work has been done of late.
Has something been disturbed during that process?
Did you remove the scuff plates to run some wires to the boot?
You may have crushed the insulation of a wire under the scuff plate
causing it to allow power to the interior light to earth (come in contact) to the body.
Its just a thought.
Cheers

Hi J,
being rather well accustomed to your wiring, I would say it has something to do with your horn or neons. The stereo is installed pretty well, and I don't think it is shorting.
Can shorts be tested with a multi meter?

i dont have scuff plates,
and my brake lights have not worked for a long time so I am not really sure what the problem is as I have a few loose wires under the dash

Yes, test from the load side (i.e. the side without the power on it ) to earth with the meter set on Ohms - pull the globes out and you should have an open circuit , if the meter reads zero Ohms there is a problem and you will need to trace the wire until you find the short.

Stop = brake lights.... might explain why you have none. Especially if the fuse is blown. I'd be checking all your wires for the brakes, starting under the dash and the switch on the brake pedal. Somethings not right.
