Chopped HQ Sedan

This HQ was our family driver for 13 years.
And when it was replaced by another 70's classic I finally did what I had wanted to for over 20 years.

I have chopped a few HQ to WB utes and one tonners, and even did a How To on this type of work for one of our local magazines. showing the secrets on how the original toughened curved door glass was retained and a factory front screen was used.

I I did the same with the 4 door.

All the metal work and welding was completed, but customers work put the job on the later list.
But that never happened.

I even advertised it for $1500, with only a couple of calls. But no real interest.

So I gave it to a mate for his 16 year old son as his first car.

It was stolen from their property and stripped of all the new and rebuilt mechanicals, and Monaro parts.

The body shell and doors were found months later in bush land.

Here is a before and chopped and welded shots.
A mate photoshopped the second shot to show how it should have and would have looked.

It is a 2" chop.

And all the glass except the 1/4 windows in the back doors were factory HQ toughened glass.

There will be a complete step by step build in photos when my web site is opened.

Very sharp Smooth !!!

People wouldnt pick it up at first , yet it sets the lines and styling off beautifully !!

Easiest way is with a monaro screen.

First one I did in the late 70's, was a 3" chop with a cut down screen!!!!
Several of them.

Then I found out about the difference in the Monaro screen.

Sometimes you dont need a chop with the shock value of a very short screen. And its more interesting watching and listening to people trying to work out what is different about the car.

Doing a chop on a later model car with curved side glass gets peoples attention.

Have a list of 70's wagons I would like to chop one day
