For what mods you're doing I think you have to have retractable seat belts in your car Luke. I guess they'd have to be RTA certified too but not sure??
Someone in here will know and if not best bet would be to ring the RTA or check out website to find out exactly where you stand...to be sure...peace of mind. Probably all sorts of conditions and rules.
Interesting to find out :)

They can be retractable or lap sash belts here in NSW but have to be inspected by an approved NSW RTA recognised seat belt fitment installer.

I have spoken to an approved installer here where I am just recently re same subject and he has inspected my car and told me the areas of the car that would be sufficiently strong enough for retainment/anchor points.

There is information on seatbelt fitment on the dotars site under National Code of Practise for Light Vehicle Modifications which gives you a good idea of how and where the retainment/anchor points are to be on the car and how the fitment retainment/anchor parts should be constructed.

Its not real easy to find the info on the dotars site otherwise I'd direct you to it with one of them link thingy's, maybe someone here can do it??

i just rang my engineer and asked him. lap sash belts must be used for seating wherever possible, as they are available to be bought new. or i can use racing harnesses in it if i really wanted to but i don't.
just thought i'd let everyone know what i found out.

Yep, thats the one.For seat belt fitment info go to LK Seating Occupancy and Protection.

Mods, can we get that page  up as one of them sticky thingies as there is a hell of a lot of info there that anyone can use as a base to help answer questions regarding permitted modifications.

As far as I'm aware all states use this National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Modifications.

I agree this sit is very informative :!:

I've only looked at the seat and seatbelt section so far, it gives backing plate dimensions, positioning etc.

All with pictures those for us who can't read much good :!:
