Does anyone know how to identify the year (month) for an EK. The ID plate doesn't show any details. Can it be identified from the numbers or the colour codes ?

Not as far as I know - you can identify the year of the car by the markings in the glass but not the month.

If you car is a sedan & has the original "Boot Mat", they are usually dates on one of the edges that go down the rear quarters.

Thanks for the ideas. Checked the glass, the only markings I could find was "Pilkington Toughtened Glass" on the quarter glasses, nothing on the front window, unless I'm not looking in the right place. It's a wagon, and none of the original floor covering are still in it.

Isn't Dusk Plum a 61 colour, that should be a start. The glass markings will have a small dot over various characters of the wording, from those you can pick the period the glass was produced

Thanks Guys, just remembered that the doors are all off an FB, so they will be wrong. Will check the other glass.
Based on the ID plate.
EK229 = Wagon
4166-S = 4,166 EK wagon made at the Sydney factory. (If I could find out how many were made might narrow it down)
585-0237 = paint is "Dusk Plum" which was a '61 colour.
585-0235 = roof colour was "Carneo Beige" also a '61 colour.
685-977 = Trim I'm not sure of, but it's currently a Grey and Silver EK combo. Front seat is a "Camper" (folds back) but looks original and matches the back one.

Hi Finny,
Interesting colour combo. Will you keep those colours? Also roof is Cameo Beige...not Carneo Beige...typo.
It would be good to see how many wagons were built. Anyone got those sorts of totals for sednas, wagons, vans, utes?
4166 is a fairly low number I would have thought.

Something that Dr Terry pointed out a while back that the body tag and subframe numbers start at number 1001.
So that makes your body the 3165th to be made at the Sydney factory.
Yep, it's a fairly low number.I'd guess it was in the first few months or so from production commencement??
Dr Terry might know of the total production numbers perhaps?

Hi Guys.
The 977 part of the TRIM number refers to a Mawson & Athens Grey interior.
The 685 bit refers to the Cameo Beige over Dusk Plum exterior colour scheme.
Only chassis numbers & engine numbers begin at 1001, body numbers (for each model type) began at 0001. This makes it the 4166th EK Special wagon to be made in Sydney.

I know where there is a wrecked FB and the chassis number is FB1010P - does that mean it would have been built on day one of production? Might have to go and get it if it is.

Thanks guys, really is a lot of info out there, and some great ideas. Thanks for all the feedback. D61wagon, no the colour was changed as you can see in the photos, it was that way when I got it. Had a look at your wagon, nice to see what the original colour was supposed to be. I will be changing it again, but haven't decided on colours at this stage. Original or new?

Hi.
AFAIK I have all the interior trim codes. I got them mostly from Holden manuals, but the exterior trim codes are what I am chasing.
What I should do is list the colours on the forum, for the codes I need, to see if anyone here has a car that matches.
