Miss Piggy and Esme

Just some pics of mine and my best mate's EK.

Esme is a works in progress at this stage. Needs paint and a bit of rust work. Fitted with running gear from a VS commodore. Destined to be a his missus' daily (only a 5km round trip).

Miss Piggy is a works in progress also. The paint is average and could do with a freshen up. I bought her in around August 07 for $7k. Since then she's had virtually all suspension/steering/wheel components replaced, a full rebuild of the grey, extractors, new seat belts, handbrake upgrade and lots of trips to the wineries. The best part is she is rust/repair free.

Some pics.

Enjoy.

Thanks guys.

BBear, we usually go for a cruise on a Saturday night after the footy's finished on Foxtel. Just get a coffee etc.

We should organise a wineries FB/EK tour. Would be fun. Unfortunately for me, my wife convienently refuses to drive the 3spd.

not trying to nit pick but are you sure thats a VS .... the engine looks like a VR .... i was sure the ECOTEC in a VS had an alloy sump ? either way the sump looks good, your engine must sit higher than mine, either that or you've cut part of the crossmember away to fit a larger sump in there ?

oh and the simmons look schmick as! i want them for my fb ute but in straight alloy.

Yeah it's a VR sorry. I can't really tell them apart anyway. They look equally good getting picked up off a car trailer by a 2 tonne claw.

The exhaust piece you can see hanging came loose and fell back to the trailer deck. The claw very gently went back for it, picked it up between it's "talons" and added it to the pile.

Miss piggy, when i saw your car, i almost thought it was one of mine i had a while ago, so i rang up the owner (andrew smith... smiths customs) to ask if if he on sold the car. Been advised yours is not it. I love the colour and it was the best ek i ever owned.. no rust, good interior and perfect motor.

It was a good find alright. Although it was from a coastal area, there is just no rust in it. Even the bottom of the spare wheel well is immaculate. The paintwork is it's only letdown. Just a bit tired. I gave it a good buff and she's nice and shiny again, but could definately do with some new paint and chroming.

The bloke I bought it off was a total knob. When I pulled the engine down, it looks like he'd used roofing selastic as gasket goop, and even as a seal where he couldn't source one. He also produced receipts for suspension replacements that, once inspected, proved to be original parts, with wear and tear to suit. The king pins were worn to nothing, and the apparent new bushing kit looked like it had done a couple of hundred thousand miles. Paid for an inspection in Qld, and the mechanic turned out to be a relative of his. But as my wife considers it, we've rescued her from a bad home, and now treat her accordingly.

The only inspection I did myself was at the Brisbane airport when I flew up. Gave him the cash and made it about 2 hours down the road before her engine started to give in. With some superior bush-mechanic skills  I got her back to Newcastle, and pulled her down to reveal the mechanical neglect.

how do people sell cars like that  especially when they know you have a long drive ahead of you
when i sold the van i was reasonably confident in it but panicky untill i'de heard from the buyer letting me know he got home ok, and would have felt terrible had the car let him down

Unfortunately Rat there are knobs out there who call themselves enthusiasts when in actual fact they are nothing but hacks looking for quick easy money and will do and say anything for a sale.

While others like yourself rat who actually have a consciounce (sp?!) and care a whole heap about not just the car......
