Hey Bex, GOOD and CHEAP don't go together! Rather good and reliable. I know of a few good guys up here in Brisvegas, But thats no good for where you are. I just wanted to point out that I've never found a Good Cheap Mechanic, Plenty of cheap ones but no GOOD!!!
Cheers Theo Z.....................
PS. The boys from the NSW club should have some contacts and I think there is a page on here somewhere with service and part suppiers.
Keep on Kruizin

Most mechanics will only get their apprentices to do the job so anywhere handy to home is sufficient.

Supply your own pads and it should keep the price down.

Sorry Bex,
Brakes are one of the most important parts of the car. Find a good reliable company that garantee their work. That way if any problems arise they will fix or repair their own work. If work is garanteed they are more likely to do it right the first time so as to not have the trouble that bad workmanship and the power word of mouth can give a company.

Bec,

You Midas well get another quote!!

Try Bebco Automotive in Auburn Ph 02 9644 2888 which doesn't seem to be too far from you.His name is Terry ( no, not me  ) and he is a fellow forum member ( username Dr Terry on this forum ).He's a nice bloke and should be able to help you out and he's into old Holdens and knows them inside out.

Also look on this forum under "General Sharing Advice and Experience " and look at the top of the page "Suppliers and Services " and there is a bit on brake specialists.

Hope that helps,

Terry ( the other one  )

Mable goes to Holten Spares at Dee Why 99814776

its a long drive from where I live and its such a pain to sit around and drink beer while she's being worked on NOT :D

however as they wreck old holdens they nearly always have the bits available, they have kept all the FB EK stuff for Mable

what?, what kind of brakes are they, HR brakes are very easy to change pads, not much harder than changing a flat tyre if you dont need to machine the rotors, if the rotors are not worn too much you can take them down and get them machined.
if you need new rotors its sometimes a pain in the arse to get the screws out of the disc, ive broken heaps of allen sockets on them.
i find all the new rotors chew up real quick so its good if you can save the old ones.
i have hr pads, its hard to buy fancy pads for HR so i rarely pay over $35 for pads.
on the other hand my &*#@ is a pain in the arse, thats why new pads are in the boot still, i took it to work and put it on the hoist and me or none of the technicians could figure out how the pads come out.
