Hot Rod Rumble
Posted: Tue Jan 22, 2008 11:07 am
Howdy folks, here is an important update on the Twilight Hot Rod Show & Rockabilly Rumble.
Have you noticed the rain that started falling at Christmas is still lingering? This drought breaker has created a lot of water on the oval at Souths. It’s no use parking hot rods in a swamp, so we’re moving the cars to higher ground, namely the driveway that runs all around the Souths clubhouse. This is the new plan, come rain or shine on the day.
Hot Rod Parking
The hot rod show will start at the Souths entrance off Jane Street with cars on display along the driveway, past the clubhouse and around to Montague Road. We’ll be on asphalt and the change will prevent cars from getting bogged and or spectators having to walk through mud.
Public Parking
Parking for non-show vehicles will be along Jane Street, the river road and the surrounding streets.
Old Holdens never die, they just get kustomised
All vehicles in the kustom kullture style are welcome and if you have a rusty or shiny FX, FJ, FB, EK, FC, FE, EJ or EH Holden, (don’t forget the Valiants and Aussie built Fords and Chryslers) the Australia Day weekend is the time to dust it off and acknowledge our Aussie motoring heritage.
The hot rod show will have random ‘Show Winner’ awards on the day, similar to the Jailhouse Rock some years ago and they’ll be presented around 6.15pm. The show is not sanctioned.
Ticket prices
There’s no charge to enter a vehicle in the show and in fact, the drivers receive a $5 discount on tickets. That means if you are showing a car, its only $10 entry for the driver. All passengers, people on foot and rockers riding lowriders are $15 entry. Under 12s are free, but anyone under 18 will need a parent to enter the Rockabilly Rumble, as it’s a licensed club.
Live Rockabilly
The live rockabilly will be rumbling on the ground floor level of the Souths clubhouse with the festivities spilling out to the front courtyard, where we’ll have a sizzling bbq.
The Rockabilly Rumble will include The Nervous Wreckers from Sydney in their only Brisbane show, Miss Teresa & Her Rhythmaires, West Texas Crude, DJ Leapin' Lawrie and DJ Lori Lee.
The Rumble room fits 300 people and it will fill up quick so it’s best to get your ticket in advance. They’re on sale now on the Robot web site, just follow the directions. www.robot.com.au
That’s the update for now. See ya there,
