HR front-end question

Hi All, just got given an fb ute in parts, and sitting in the tray is an HR disk front end. I want to put a grey motor in the car (has no motor or transmission) with the original 3 speed, but would consider using the disk front end. the car also came with a couple of VH40 brake boosters, apparently one was fitted when the car was last running.

So would it be easier to swap in the whole front end and cut off the red motor mounts and swap the front prong thing to mount the grey motor?

or

can you swap just the wishbones/ball joints etc or is there an easier way to do it?

or

is a boosted drum front end going to be ok anyway?

I'm looking at building a simple daily driver car, nothing too fancy.

thanks

gday hammondo

your first option would be the best 8) remove the red engine mounts and replace the out rigger for the orig fb/ek one , try the better of the 2 vh40 booster's

yes it would need an engineers report for NSW rego, but if you know someone it could possably be overlooked

I put a disc brake HR front end under my EK ute when i had it. I removed it from a EH. I fiitted the front end without changing the front EH tongue.
It slotted straight in and all i did was drill the two holes for the grey front mount to bolt through. Not sure if EH and HR front outrigger tongues are different. But it worked out perfect for me. The grey sump cleared the cross member by about 12mm. I left the red motor mounts in place. They didnt interfere with the grey motor fuel pump or extractors. etc

I eventually fitted a 186.using an EH sump , original EK steering pitman arm , drag link and tie rod arms as well as the old 3 speed crash box. This set up gives you 4 engine mounts . The engine mounts had to be moved back a touch . engine ended up about 12mm off the firewall and i used a 6 blade flexi fan ...........

Slap, slap, ........shut up reddo the question was about cross members/ front ends
Bugger the RTA ......Just do it.

Thanks Reddo, the HR front tongue didn't look quite as strong from memory, but will have a closer look, but its a good idea, easier to drill two holes than re attach the tongue. Whats the best way to do the steering? is the HR steering different?

Cheers

You're right, sorry I missed that. So the FB tie rod ends should be compadible with the HR I suppose, that makes it a very simple job then!

Cheers Guys
