front suspension springs

Gday to all.
I am finding the extra weight of the 308 fitted to my EK has made the tyres rub in the inside of the guard.
I have heard you can put packing plates on the top of the springs to give some extra lift ...but not sure? The frontend is recessed HR, I could go to somewhere like pedders suspensions and spend a #%$@ load of $$$ but would like to avoid that if possible ...any suggestions. Help

I can only offer the following mate, hopefully others can offer more advice as I dare say I will be facing a similar problem.
- Change ride hieght ..... new springs
- Change tyre offset/width ...... new rubber and rims
- Lip front guards ......
Dont know about the backing plates sorry.

Gday Luke
I have heard of spacers being placed above the springs in the front end.
They use to do it on the old gassers back in the sixties at the drags.
A higher front end, meant better weight transfer for the launch.
The spacer was an aluminium disc of similar diameters to the inside & outside
of the spring, made to fit snug in the spring tower.
The height of it was by however much lift you wanted.
Its an option

got the same problem.just bought some nolathane spacers that fit under your springs.

Those nolathane rubbers are 8mm thick,you place them under your spring.they should give you a little more hieght.I have not put mine in yet so dont know how good they work.Think there about $50.Speed shops or rare spares should have them.I also trimmed the inside of my gaurds a bit.Im also fitting a new thicker front stabaliser bar.These are not overated and play a big part in stopping the body roll which can also make your front wheels rub.

Hey Luke,
If your suspension has come down a fair bit with the extra weight, it might be worth getting a wheel alignment done as when the front comes down the top of the tyres goes out at the same time. Hense needing a wheel alignment to stop the tyres scrubbing.
If you replace springs or fit spacers it would still be a good idea to get an alignment done.

I appreciate the imput guys, I have fitted 16 inch speedy rims and new low profile rubber. ( I had not considered the wheel alignment factor thou ) I was going to get an alignment when she was just about complete.
I need to get about 2 cm lift to clear the guard.
I dont think those shims will do what I want.
I will have to pull out the springs and take them to pedders and see what they can supply.

spring insulators
rare spares part number 7429151
these are hard plastic and are 4mm thick
so will raise your front end 8mm
i think they were 6 bucks each
go to clarks rubber!
