Wagon glass fitment

Hi all. I'm going to have ago at fitting the fixed glass in my wagon. Just wondering if some one has had a go themselves and can offer some tips. I have fitted the side glass already .I done the right hand one first and started at the lower rear corner and worked my way forward to the front top corner ,but had a hell of a job the get the sash cord out. I did put a generous bead of sealant around the window flanges.
I then fitted the left window starting at the top front corner and working my way backwards toward the rear corner, but found I was struggling to keep the glass forward enough ,but managed to get it in with a slight gap between the rubber and the body along the front upper edge. Perhaps a bit of window sealant to fill the slight gap.
Before fitting the glass into the rubbers i applied a bead of sealing goo into the glass recess. Perhaps I should of asked for advice before i started, but watching you tube videos gave me the confidence to give it ago.
My next mission is to fit the rear glass to the upper tailgate but to me it looks like the glass is positioned on the inner side of the frame and the rope pulled from the out side of the car. Do I squirt the sealant after the window is in place or apply it to the rubber before I put in on the glass ?
Looking forward to your comments.
I think the windscreen might be the easiest to fit as there are no sharp corners .I have watched the rares shed talk video ,but again there is no mention of when and where to apply the sealant. I am using a wurth non hardening window sealant.
