Picked this old banger up the other week from a friend of mine who is in the process of downsizing post retirement and struggling with the whole process a bit.

I was not in the market for another “project” at all so unsure what the plans will be at this stage while my focus is on finishing the LS conversion in my other wagon and getting the Grey Powered HAMBster back on the track with the new engine combo.

He has some cool history and bits and pieces still so I obliged to help my old mate out. At least he is now back undercover instead of sitting out in backyard like he has done for the last 15 or so years.

Yeah the last 15 years have been a bit tough on old Eddie. Unfortunately the Norman blown grey is no longer fitted so when the fuel pump on the currently fitted 186 shat itself it all started going down hill.

He came with some good doors and from the poke around I’ve had It all repairable. Just not a high priority for me at the moment while I get over the the trauma from the other wagon

Wagon envy just doubled Brendon. Main thing is its under cover, being preserved. Great history.

Took the long weekend as an opportunity to head back out to see Lindsay and pickup another load of bits as he slowly goes through his bits and pieces and finds more parts for Eddie.

Half a SC14 Castlemaine Rod Shop supercharger kit for the currently fitted red motor. Rest of it is still buried away in a container somewhere and I’ll grab it when he manages to dig it out.

Starting to collect bits and pieces for when the other wagon is finished thanks to my mate Matt who is going a different route with his build…

This is the last thing I should be spending energy on given the other wagon is not finished and we have a van to build before the nationals next year….

Anyway…. there is an event coming up at the end of August my HAMBster mate Brian has talked me into trying to go to with him. He runs his hamster there but I’m not keen on getting mine dirty and then having to spend time I don’t have cleaning it after so I don’t piss the track officials of next time I can make the strip. This event lines up with work and I haven’t done anything car related for a while so figured I’d try get Eddie going for it.

A morning was spent going over him. Fuel pump was missing, dizzy cap on the electronic ignition was off so threw my spare fuel pump from the hambster on, out the cap back on, pulled the plugs, squirted some cat piss in the bores and wound it over by hand…

With everything seemingly ok I hooked a battery up and then waited to see what caught fire. Thankfully nothing, a few signs of life with the oil pressure idiot light, headlights and high beams working.

Hit the starter and he reluctantly cranked over, built enough oil pressure for the light to go out and again no smoke escaping from anywhere. Rig up a small Jerry can, tip some fuel in the carb which then proceeded straight back out of the accelerator pump. Decide to proceed, get a bit of a stutter but decide the carby needs a kit and a bit of work and I don’t want to be spending money on this thing or the reasons mentioned above.

Having the full driveline out of the wagon in the shed I decided to rip the unkown condition big block out and go back to the known (albeit a bit tired) condition small block.

Tim had a few rims I grabbed off him. So gave them a bit of a tidy up (they didn’t need much) and fitted some new shoes.

Plan for now to get the grey in, get it running and driving, go through the brakes, steering and suspension so it’s not a pure death trap and use it as a dirt drag, mud run etc type car I don’t have to worry about too much and have some fun in or have to spend too much money on.

A set of HR rims to suit the HR front end and a pair of 13x7 fatties. Thanks Tim.
Image

Newish tyres I had lying around for the caravan (now going 14” HQ to match the wagon) and the cheapest pair of 205/60r14 fatties for the rear.
Image

I can actually push it in and out of the shed now without wanting to burn it.
Image

Big block out. Will pull this apart another day and see if it suits my future plans (after the boss gets her caravan she has been waiting patiently for)
Image

Small block in. Some idiot (me) put the spigot bush in backwards when I did the clutch in the FB…. Will pull it back out when I next get a day off, sort the spigot bush, prob pull the gearbox and put it all back in as one.

Also during the break I managed to sneak a bit of a trip out to visit the old owner. I managed to pickup a few more brackets and bits and pieces for the Hadfield sc14 supercharger kit (hopefully it’s all there now minus the manifold) 3 decent doors (good enough for Eddie) and one crappy one that we will try replace and a few old fashioned snaps of Eddie in better times
