Engine oil grade(s)

Hi,

Does anyone know recommended engine oil grades for the FB/EK grey motor?

Someone I know had been using 20w-60 grade oil for his EK Holden, but I wonder whether that's too thick.

Regards,

Andrew (AVM)

Cheap supermarket-grade oil (15W-40 or 20W-50). Change it every thousand miles. Anything more expensive is a waste of money.

Hey Andrew

I’m pretty much in line with Rob. I’m running a stock grey and stay away from the liquid gold synthetic oils and just use a mineral oil 20-50w Repco brand. I change it every 12 months as a rule which is less than 1000 miles.

Regards
Stephen

Hi Andrew,

Many that have grey motors use the Penrite HPR-30 20W - 60 mineral oil. It is a high zinc oil, which ensures the cam followers are well lubricated.

When my EK was my daily, I used cheap 20W - 50 oil without the zinc. Guess what? When the engine was pulled down, most of the lifters were buggered; and I had to make up one good set out of three.

I run Helix HX3 20W50, but believe that Ardiesse's advice is correct.

Cheers,
Harv
