Transmission noise

Just out today in the FB and there was distinctly a louder 'whining' noise being made in first and second at the higher end of revs. In third the noise isn't there at all. Not too sure what this could be, hopefully nothing drastic! The FB is usually a daily drive so fingers crossed this could be a quick-ish fix. Any ideas/diagnoses?
Many thanks.

Hi mate,
If the car is a daily, it would be a good idea to find a local source of knowledge/parts. Where are you located?
Cheers,
Clay

Can see you’re in western Sydney. Harv or Rob may have a lead. I heard of a wrecker around Newcastle/Hunter but must be someone closer.

Hopefully it won’t die imminently. Rob is off to broken hill and Exmouth.

sounds like cluster gear bearings , may be time for a gearbox freshen up before the gears are buggered. Frank Tedesco ? has a shop out your way somewhere - might pay to have a chat with him ???

Check it has oil in it first.

The overhaul parts are available from Rares.

Good point about the oil - I checked mine once before heading off to the nats one year and it had about 100ml in it ..... :econfused:

Thanks for the advice. Took it over to the garage in Guildford that I use, and it will be off to get refreshed. Hopefully back on the road in a week or so.

Thanks again for the advice. Getting it seen to early saved $$$ and ensured a quick return. Gearbox overhauled and some extra work done on the steering. Much more settled driving and just in time for the cold weather too.
