Hey you mob,

Has anyone found a suitable replacement for the rubber gaskets on wiper pivot posts ? The ones that fit over the post and seal between the post and the body ? One of our members has a leaky ute.

I've used these ones to seal between the bezel and scuttle, but assume you are looking for the ones lower down the shaft that look like a funky flat-faced o-ring?

You sure there is only one leaky ute? I’ve gotten away with reusable originals on a few occasions. Heavy inner tube rubber and/or butyl mastic would be my solution, but no doubt someone will find a more elegant option at the rubber store.

The Rare Spares ones look like they have the little cutout for the windscreen washer pipe, Pete Mallaby (fc hoon) sells them on eBay.

I dug this from the early days of my thread page 6.

They did need modding from what my post said and memory slightly may remember. but haven't experienced any leaks on my feet in the rain yet.

This surprises me a fair bit. Those grommets have absolutely nothing to do with sealing out water. They just steady the pivot. The flat gasket under the bezel is the only one keeping water out of cabin. If there is a leak, 100% nothing to do with those grommets.

I agree. They are more about isolating the body from mechanical vibration of the pivots.

That's probably why mine haven't leaked then . I did them a while ago so my memory is dusty.

HHHMMMMM , I will have to have a look on a wreck when I get home to refresh my (piss poor) memory .........

If that's the case its an easy fix to replace the bezel rubbers, don't even need to make your own

Not much water would come through a decayed bezal gasket. If it's a decent leak it's more likely a drain tube is blocked and water is overflowing from trough under plenum or there are rust holes letting water through- or both.

That's what I said to him but he is adamant that's not the problem - I might have to have a look myself

Just stick a can of expandafoam up there she'll be right.
