Preparing for my trip to Toowoomba and beyond, loading usual spares, hoses, belt, clamps, coil. Now I'm wondering if I'm getting carried away, axle, alternator, wiper motor.

Oil change anticipated Coffs Harbor. Maybe Mick will lend hoist? Brake fluid, Moreys, cutting compound, polish, prepsol, 303, Wedgewood Blue. 10L fuel, funnel, tow rope, extra spare, rags, gas burner, canisters, wog coffee pot, cook and eat gear. Blankets and tarps for load (panel van roof, visor). Oh yeah, I have a 149 ,head I'm delivering to brizvegas and dome bumperettes. The swag but may have to settle for the single with all this stuff. 9'1" mal, wetsuits, towel. Jocks socks toothbrush beanie uggs birks.

Travel light. Carrying spare parts becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. You won't break an axle. Holden alternators are super-reliable, and you can find them anywhere. And it's surely not going to rain . . .

Some of the Humpy people used to carry (get this) two spare axles, a generator, a starter motor, a water pump, and a distributor on long drives. I used to make fun about cracking a cylinder head too -

I’ve got a decadence of space underneath Rob but yeah the weight, though think I’ll still bring wiper motor. I don’t trust you on the rain, sorry. The head is behind the rear axle, and helps neutralise handling.

Your list of bits looks pretty complete. Chuck in a bit of fuel hose...... always good for syphoning petrol to keep you going. The 303 brought back some memories. As a youngster the family used to go away interstate camping in the FB and Dad would have the .22 stashed under the front seat.


Look forward to reading your travel adventures. The Ute will come in handy for picking up any bargains along the way

Highways busier than ever these days, the 303 would probably make it rain police !!!!!!!

Last trip I did out from broken Hill there was no solitude, too many caravans and tourists, there was plenty of goats on the side of the road probably farmed.

It will be an awesome trip in the old girls hope everyone has fun.

No ordinance, just a couple of clasp knives.
303 protectorant for the tonneau cover.

Loaded everything up bar jocks and socks, filled the tank and 10L jerry and took a test run down to Victor Harbor. Handling is heavier with the extra load giving more caster. Extra weight is quite noticeable.

Weight redistribution try and improve driving feel. Cylinder head moved to under floor behind passenger seat. Ejected extra spare wheel, axle, alternator.

Handcleaner? Never go on voyages without it.

Me too. My brother and I did a road trip down the coast from Brisbane to Vic to see all our rellies when we were early 20s. Packed clothes, a tent, one book and an esky with sausages, potato’s and a 1kg block of cheese. Board bags for a bed and a sheet (we’re not animals you know..). Surf was crap the whole way down the coast and we were fighting over the book most of the time. After a week of sausages and cheese (had no real means to cook the potatoes) we got to the grandmothers house. Talk about under prepared for our camping trip. Lucky not to have scurvy by the time we got there. Apparently we hadn’t heard there were any other supermarkets on the way down...
