As I can’t (for the life of me ) post pics on the FE FC forum, I thought I would run past this amazing brains trust re my issue.

I’m not sure if I have showed you guys and girls my one owner & completely original FC I purchased not long after I sold my Wedgewood blue / Cathay grey FB Special.

My issue is, the gentleman who purchased this car in 1959 scraped the gate of his house in Newcastle sometime in the 1980’s.

He never repaired it.
Which is fine, but I would like to know is there anyone out there that can repair this door, but keep the original faded paint look when finished.

I don’t think I have ever seen this done before.

Big question I know.

Please take a closer look at the passenger side front door.

Thoughts?

Try a piantless dint repair mob or you can buy on eBay around $50

Have you had anyone look at it mate ? If the rest of the paint on the car is in good nick I think a spectrometer could be used to mix the colour as it now sits and a successful touch up done.

Agree with Blacky 100%.

That damage will need panel work and a repaint. The problem with most shops now though is they use 2 pack paint.

A good spray painter / panel shop would be able to match the colour and probably finish it with 2 pack and you would never know.

Just got to find a good one !!

Thanks for your replies.

I can repair the door so it’s ready for paint, no problem here, and I do agree that a successful match could be made.

The original paint (nitro type paint I understand) is like a almost mat, satin finish as it has aged
What I don’t understand is how can a painter re produce this faded satin finish, so it can somewhat match the rest of the door?

Doesn’t new paint flow on and become naturally shiny out of the spray gun?

I can't remember which part of NSW you are in, but if it is close to Sydney then I'd recommend Hawkesbury Valley Smash just out of Windsor. They worked miracles on Graces ute (twice) and are good people to deal with.

I had the same problem with my ute but the damage was far worse - The Nitro might come up a bit with the proper polish to help blend in perhaps and good paint shops still can use acrylics but it's a very good chance you will see the difference and it may need several attempts.

I really don’t want to attempt to polish this original finish for a couple of reasons.
I like the almost faded patina of this lovely green colour, plus I don’t know how thick it is and I’d hate to polish through it.

As I said, I don’t mind that he never repaired it way back then, there is also a slight crease he also did on the drivers side rear door, but it didn’t damage the paint, but the passenger door really spoils this really well preserved original car, it’s quite a nasty gouge.

I drive it every weekend (which is a shame I didn’t know about the Penrith Heartland Holden thing) but I park it so not to attract attention to the passenger side lol.

They do hail damage and alike just google hail damage repairer in your area

Yes the old chap always parked it in a garage or under cover or a car cover.
The throttle pedal cover is a gem isn’t it.

He sure liked to protect things.
It even has a crochet rug on the back seat the chaps wife made & put on there 40 years ago.
I took it off for a while, but I felt guilty as she made it and it had been on there for so many years I put it back over the seat.

Now that made me smile. My grandmother used to crochet those, in nearly identical colours. Wonder if they were a Womens Weekly pattern or similar?
