Thanks Trev

They are just cross members.
On the Auto as you have shown its for rigidity and they go backwards for gearbox clearance. On the manual body the member goes straight across from sill to sill.
They also hold the handbrake mechanism.

This was a modification of the originally FE floor pan to allow for the larger hydramatic trans as Greg has said. This body style was sought after by modifiers as it could accommodate larger gearboxes such as trimatic and Australian all synchro three and four speed. EK EJ and EH had different floor pans for auto cars. From HD on larger tunnel became standard. Gearboxes became larger too of course although a crash box was still standard up to and including HK 161 and 186.

So if this body I have doesn’t have them, then it’s originally a manual?

Yes that's right,
It goes straight across and the trans tunnel is smaller.

most people find they foul on the gearbox member when they put in a chassis. best to check your strategy.

I installed a complete Hydramatic front floor, well what was left of one. That way I am confident of fitting the repro floor mat. If you are chassising the car then best just fabricate your own setup. Even if you are using a larger box with no chassis. Otherwise if you need to cut the no 1 body member to fit larger tunnel an alternative is to reproduce a larger section.
