Wanted: ute tailgate latch lever

When I bought Grace's ute, the tailgate latch had busted. The part that sticks up through the tailgate (that you put your thumb on to to open it) had snapped off, leaving a short stub (maybe 5mm) sticking up. The piece in question can be seen in the thread below:

Not a big deal at the time (the tailgate still works), but the more I drive the ute the more it craps me.

Looking for the lever please with the "bit you put your thumb on" still attached. Shouldn't need the rest of the mechanism.

Cheers,
Harv

There is a guy selling repro ones out of Toowoomba from memory around $170. Forged from stainless plate they look more or less correct and more durable than the original which is die cast. Cheaper than a good second hand one and you won’t get just the handle as that is the part that breaks.

You could do what I did and rivet on a fabricated end piece. It does the job and can’t really notice that it has been repaired unless you’re looking for it. See if o can find the repros on gumtree.

Thanks Clay.

The repro one is nicely made, but at $170 I think I have short arms and long pockets  .

I'm hoping someone has a buggered tailgate with a useable latch. Might be a bit of a long shot. If one hasn't turned up in the next week or so I'll go the rivet route.

Cheers,
