It did have a pair of upper tailgate supports which looked ok. Tracked down the owner AJ in a wrecking yard down the street a block. Long story short I managed to get out of there with no parts but my sanity mostly intact. Not sure I could say the same for AJ. He made some interesting statements about his cars to put it mildly.
