Hey guys,

I'm running HQ stubs and Leyland P76 discs on my HR front end, does anyone know what is the best caliper to use, steel or alloy and what brand. The front end has a front mounted rack & pinion so the caliper has to be on the back.
Any info would be appreciated.

i don't think it really matters i think just personal preference but from memory i think you need spacers to space the callipers with the P76 discs

Just another quick question someone may be able to answer. Do you know if Commodore front disc calipers will fit onto HQ stub axles.
I'm having a bit of trouble with my front brake setup. I have HQ stub axles with Leyland P76 Disc and HJ calipers. The problem being on full lock the brake hose is getting caught up in the control arm and I'm trying to find another solution but at the same time keeping the P76 discs.
Any info would be good

maybe the hq-hz caliper that has the hose coming out the rear of it which will point it towards the rear of the car ?

im not sure which model had it though but i might be able to get my hands on some for you ?

Hey Mal,

My front end is HR with Hz stubs discs and callipers.
I have the alloy callipers and I have had to relieve a section on the cross member so the calliper does'nt hit on full wheel travel and full lock.
The brakes are rear mounted as well.
You can get fittings that offset the hoses eg 90 or 45 degree from the calliper and dont forget the springs and clips that hold the hoses out of the way.
You just need to muck around until you achieve clearances.
Do the P76 discs fit without spacing the calliper?

Are the alloy caliper the Girlock brand?
Yes on mine the caliper has a spacer between it and the stub to fit the P76 rotors, I got that kit years ago from CRS.

So hows you car going, must just about have paint on it by now hey.

Hey Mal,
Car has stalled because I am in the middle of moving house and Garage Big effort indeed.
I had a look at the callipers and they are girlocks.
The gurus tell me that this calliper is the ants pants because of the location of the slides ( no bending or warping of the pads ).
Do the P 76 discs need anything special to fit the stubs ( spacers etc? ).
I will be getting back into the car in about 3 to 4 weeks. My new house has a good shed high enough for a hoist so I want to get that sorted as well, ( getting old you know ).

Anybody got a hoist for sale?

The P76 Kit I bought has spacers for the calipers and a spacer for the bearing as well.

A hoist, now thats just spoiling yourself.
