Engine quitting

Post by indiana »

Been a while since I've been on the forum; good news is Phoebe the pink FB is still running every day. Last month had a service that included the fuel pump o/haul, new sparks, leads, oil and rotor. Everything was running top notch until Wednesday the motor quit. Pulled over, cranked the engine...no dice. Popped the bonnet and checked for anything loose, try again and starts. Happened again the very next day in almost the same spot (300m from start). Today it quit further from home, but restarted before I had stopped rolling. Then on the way back, I got like a 'quit' but didn't lift the foot off and she just kept going without quitting completely. Not too sure if this is electrical (cranks straight away) or if this is a fuel blockage as a result of the pump being cleaned (which I am leaning to)
Any ideas???

I had a similar thing years ago,

Turned out a bit of crap in the fuel line, the engine would start but drive it 300 metres it would run out of fuel and stop.

Sounds the same, I would disconnect all the fuel lines and blow them out with compressed air.

When blowing back from the fuel pump to the tank, remove the petrol cap to let it breathe, otherwise you pressurise the fuel tank (the little breather in the fuel cap cannot keep up with an air compressor). It’s a good idea to do this when the fuel tank level is low, otherwise the air blows the fuel out the filler neck. Don’t ask how I know
