Strong Fumes Entering Cabin

Dear all,
I have strong petrol fumes coming from the petrol tanks. It makes driving dis-pleasurable particularly on long drives. On numerous occasions I have refitted a new gasket from the fuel sender unit and petrol tank as it appears to be leaking from that area.
This has been not seemed to have worked, are there any suggestions ? And/or is this a common problem others are experiencing with their old cars?
Thanks
Shane

Did you use the correct crushable washers?
You might also check the tanks not rusted and venting.
A tank repair kit is available from POR if it is.

Pretty common problem these days Shane, check for pinholes in the top of the tank , I am having one refurbished ATM for my sedan because of this .

Hi There,
I just had great success with the KBS tank repair kit relining my tank. Also when you put in your gasket use a fuel resistant gasket dressing, this will help even out any unevenness in the surfaces and improve the seal. Personally I ditched the cork gasket and went with a fuel tolerant gasket maker. Works a treat, I no longer smell any fuel in the cabin.

Good luck.

Mine was leaky around the sender and I had pinholes so I put in another tank and made a new cork gasket for the sender as I had some cork but you can buy new fuel sender gaskets.
The really cheap fix is don't fill the tank....
