Handbrake clips and fiddly bits

Hi folks,

Had a little issue with my handbrake shaft the other day, gave it a little pull and it popped out and left me hanging with nothing but my shaft in my hand and a red face. Felt like a teenager again!

It's clear I am missing a few parts and I have managed to work out what I believe I need and hopefully the correct terminology for each bit. A couple of queries here:

1: Apart from the shaft coming out, a small bracket/clip thing fell out from under the dash. It's the little H bar that makes the ratchet noise and locks the shaft in place when all is well. I believe it is called the handbrake ratchet "pawl". My Gregory's manual mentions nothing of it and searching Rare Spares, Ebay etc, I located a 'repair kit" for EJ onwards which has 3 bits in it, which I presume would be similar for FB EK. There is no kit for FB EK.

I also located a spring by itself on Ebay by everyone's fav seller Early Bits (I think it's number 1 or maybe 3) for FB EK. My questions are, do I need the 3rd piece as in the EJ kit and can someone tell me how it all goes together? I've worked out how the H bar goes in, but how does the spring sit and what is the 3rd bit for? Thanks.. My "ratchet pawl" was working because it had been bodged up, someone had managed to hold the clip in with a cable tie, which seemed to work until the cable came off the end...

2: The reason the shaft came out, I am missing the little circlip that goes around the shaft end over the cable end ball. The only one I can find for sale is again eBay for a stupid price, so can someone confirm if this piece is so rare that the seller can ask $14.99 for a used one and also charge $6.00 postage - it can't be bigger than a 5c piece. Or has anyone used something else like a hose clamp or a generic circlip?

Thanks

There is a hose clamp that comes with fuel filters I think, It is spring loaded you squeeze two lugs together to open it let them go and it returns to original shape not much of a description I know ,they come in different sizes may be able to use one of those

Thanks Billy

Good idea, I got a heap of those so i will give it a go. The only obstacle is the height of the 'tips' as it has to fit in the inner tube of the shaft when hand brake is on.

Cheers..

GIDDY UP!! Works well, you win a prize, but yep, will need to grind it down, so I will hit it up tomorrow. Missus is likely to punch me in the face if I crank it up on Saturday night.

Shame it's green. But it beats a used circlip for $21 to my door.

12.7mm is the shaft size if anyone cares..

CAN YOU SOLVE THE RATCHET PAWL BIT?

Thanks Billy.

What's an inch? Is that like MPH on my speedo, I keep doing 45 in 50 zones and getting pulled over.

25.4mm

50kmh is 31mph.

Not too many metric fittings on any real Holden.
