I'm pretty sure years ago I saw in a Holden repair manual that EK's came out with a 4 speed auto option, can anyone confirm or discount this please?

G'day Gus,
Well this car could be systematic,
Hyyyyyyyyyyydramatic
Ultramatic
Why it could be Greased Lightning!
The EK Hydramatic has three gears, but the torus does some funky filling/draining that was sometimes advertised as four speeds.
More info here:

I don't think that is was that simple Harv.
The way I read the various manuals & service bulletins is as follows:
When the EK was first released the Hydra-Matic was described as a '3-speed' automatic & was labelled the 'Type H561'.
Mid-way thru the EK production run (around April '62), the H561 became the '4-stage H562'.
It remained this way until the end of EH.
Having said that, I've never driven an H561 & an H562 side-by-side to feel the difference.
I've spoken to several old auto transmission technicians over the years & they say that the torus multiplication thing wasn't present in the earlier cars. Other than that I have nothing definitive.
