Fuel pouring out...

Due to the angle at which the road meets the curb, outside my house, the holden is on quite a tilt when parked. If the fuel tank is full, I lose a lot of fuel as it pours back out of the fuel cap, especially on a hot day...
My fuel cap is old and the rubber is degraded, so I'm wondering, if I get a new fuel cap, or put a new rubber on it, will this fix the problem, or will no fuel cap be fixed tight enough to stop the backward flow of fuel?
If I park the car, so that it points against the regulated direction of traffic flow, the problem goes away.. but then I spend more money on fines than I would on lost fuel...
All thoughts, ideas appreciated. Thanks.
