So guru's while we the topic of twin carbs is quite hot ATM, I have a couple of questions.

For my air filters can I run foam filters. I can get the flat sheets used for motorcycles and cut to size. If so, should they be oiled?

Or are paper filter elements a safer/better option?

The filter housings I got with my twin setup were chromed but rusty. So being cheap and liking their design I went for a fresh silver hammer tone finish. I think they came up quite good! Originally they were a foam filter element as what was left of it had made quite a mess.

Filters look good with the new paint.

Paper filter elements are OK - with filters of that size, you have enough surface area for grey twins. With the tiny little chrome filters, the paper elements become marginal on a grey.

A foam filter will flow better. Havn't seen an un-unoiled version before though. K&N do good filters - measure your bases, then use this site:

We use a lot of oil filters in 4wd applications and they work well BUT you need to be a bit careful with the amount of oil used as they can gum up a carb pretty quick and depending on oil used can be difficult to clean.
too much oil often also means they are no breathing enough so I would recommend a good paper filter and change often - cleaner by far and cheap insurance really.
Has been some versions of RYCO that have not been very good but brands like K&N are a good choice and if you can find a tyco or repack that fits they are a good choice as they are cheap and you just replace more often - you only have issues when trying to get them to last too long.
OE filters are the best so maybe acDelco have one that fits also.

It does seem that my filter housings are an odd size. I don't want to go down the track of an oiled filter. So I will keep searching!

for the twin strombergs while I was researching mine I could get 6 inch housings or 5 3/4 housings - they made the 5 3/4 as the 6 inch ones had a tendency to touch while engine was vibrating so they made them that little bit smaller would suggest that if you went a paper filter you might be able to do away with the mesh which might help them fit?

I got mine from custom bits but a few had bought the stainless units from Repco so they must sell the filters to suite - good place to start if you need to try it for size.

Well I am almost finished. Big shout out to Harv for kindly helping out with strommie parts!

I just have to polish the linkages and sort out how to mate them into the original system. Will also do a more permanent and cleaner solution for the choke. I also had a go at making my own fuel lines. Pleased with the setup as it sorta looks old school.

I ended up getting unifilter filters. I didn't want to get oiled ones, but these are a specific fit. Plus they look great.

The Myers headers are all ready. Used my furnace at work to set the paint at the required temps. Getting the stainless pipe work done next month.

Very Nice Dan - looks Killer - I had to go the braided lines as could not find anyone brave enough to do copper - Copper is what I really want - they look awesome with the brass fittings

Looking good, very similar air cleaners to mine and I will be looking for some filters aswell so where did you find them.the fuel line setup for mine is from the 70'sand the linkages are kleinig so not sure if they did the fuel set up too.not sure why it's upside down??

Thanks FJ. I had a fair bit of practice making brake lines. So same process but thicker tube. Took me a few goes tho...but only cause I was pretty fussy. I will make up a new line as well that runs to the fuel pump, just so I can keep the original should I ever need to take off the twins and go back to stock.

Nice manifold. Interesting fuel setup. Just like one long fuel rail/block. Someone more knowledgeable than me might know what the deal is!
