Hi Guys

Got all my bits and pieces to do door channels, weather strips, door seals, front and rear quarter windows, main door windows and mechanisms and all mouldings....

Ok...I've got the whole removal install thing with the quarter window and the C shaped seal. Its the upright channel seal that has me asking the question. The seal (rare spares seal vent front pillar 48 FJ FE FC FB EK 7408797) just does not look right and to simply glue it into the channel after removing the steel strip doesn't look correct. The seal is too narrow to fit into the channel? How is this accomplished with this rare spares part?

I too questioned the same thing about removing the steel strip with teeth. I've replaced 4 quarter window rubbers and in all cases removed the strip with the teeth. if you don't the rubber sit wont sit flat.

I used a Loctite glue. And the bonus is...no leaks.

Hi Stewart,

My quarter window vent seals were missing so I didn't have anything to go off except removing the metal strips.

So I've come up with this as the position the seal needs to be when glueing. Is this correct?

I'll clean and paint before putting th seal in

Lex, I just put mine in - but turned them over. So I guess one of us has 'em inside out! Cheers

I haven't glued them yet...here is my interpretation of the installment;

The seal has a small c - channel profile that I have assumed allows for the 7 raised ' bumps" where the metal strip tabs originally sat.
The only flat side of the seal contacts up against the inner side wall of the upright channel, the small '45 degree' profile of the seal contacts against
and acts as the vertical seal for the quarter glass window when it is closed.

I could be completely wrong...I have nothing to go off, so, it's a logical guess

Lex, your seals are a very different profile to mine - but have the same Rares part number. Got me beat!

if you are unsure, post photos of what you have, someone will respond, usually the same gurus.

For something that is not clear for whatever reason to one person is a no brainer to others for what other reasons.
