Hi all, first post.Looking for a project car at the moment, cant wait to get stuck in.Quick question,is it better to paint rims or have them powder coated? Im thinking the powder coat option may me a little bit brittle and prone to chipping, any body had experience? Thanks in advance Red Dog

To probs Red Dog. Not speaking from experience here but just what I've heard - powder coating seems to be the popular choice - as Sammy says.
Also what sort of project car are you looking for? FB EK...sedan, wagon, ute, panny...? or whatever come up first?
regards

Hi Parisian I am looking for either a FB or EK sedan or wagon, not really fussy. Cant go down the ute or panny road as it will be a family truckster, every day driver, probably even do the odd camping trip. Regards Red Dog

What are you looking for and how many dollars are you wanting/willing to spend to buy then spend to build, and where is Kilmore.

Hi FB4655,I am after a runner that I can keep on the road as an every day driver.Every now and then I will take it off the road for a weekend to make any changes. While its running I will source bits n pieces, maybe another motor,4 speed, whatever, then put it all on during its weekend rest. All sounds easy and I dont expect any problems at all

.Half the fun is going to be attending swap meets looking for that little something that you need, and coming home with something you didnt really need. From what ive seen so far I can expect to part with around$3500 to$4000 for what I want.Hopefully my kids will also want to get involved with the project, there certainly worse things they could do. By the way Kilmore is in Vic about 60 kms North of Melbourne in the fresh country air. Didnt mean to write a whole chapter, sorry

I would like to add tho,
that the colour range in powdercoat isnt that broad
for instance, I was tryin to match the rims to my white roof.
and had to settle for a whiter white

-wasnt a biggy, for me
but if you wanted it spot on"original" ???
also It wasnt that expensive:under 100$ for 4 rims

Powder coat if you really like the colour, I hear its a bitch to get off. All the wheels I've done in the past I've sprayed, some sandpaper and rattle cans, costs about $20.
