Replacement Lead Replacement

I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on fuel, now that LRP is getting harder and harder to get. Should we be using Premium unleaded (together with the lead-replacement additive such as ValveMaster), or would standard unleaded be just as good?

I have been running the lowest rated octane unleaded in my A model Roadster. It is running an old sidevalve (low compression) and it is running the best it has in years! I havent bothered with an additive, as a discussion with a mechaninc mate of mine. He said the would be a good build up of lead already in the enginge, so next year I will be pulling the motor so I will se the effects then. As for the EK it will probably get the same, it has red in it and as I have a spare 186 I will get this rebuilt for unleaded.

Thanks for that info Devilrod - unfortunately I had my 136 grey rebuilt two years ago and (in my wisdom) didn't get the unleaded kit done.
Can I ask - when you get the red rebuilt for unleaded - do you think you'll just use lower-grade fuel in that?

Ill try it and if it doesn't ping, I reckon she'll be right or I go my other option which will be LP gas. The thing with fuel especially unleaded is that the quality is alot more consistent (or seems to be) than what the leaded fuel which they were phasing out was. My brother in laws 76 jag needs premium unleaded otherwise it pings. So I guess compression ratio is a big factor.

I've got a grey and am using standard unleaded and adding the lead-replacement additive FlashLube whenever I fill up. It's been running real smooth.
