I'm currently rebuilding my Grenadier Red and Snowcrest White 61 ek special (pretty sure that's the colours names) and was going to stay close to original colours so's not to change interior but I'm told I cant get the original paint as its an old lead base. Someones prob had this before and I was wondering what substitute they used or is it a case of just trying to colour match. It's hard to tell because my car was all original and pretty faded as it had never been re sprayed or restored and is all soda blasted now so colour match is out of the question. Any help would be appreciated thanks

The colour I wanted to use was lead based as well and PPG told me they couldn't match it so I had to use another colour with worked out well anyway, sorry mate I know that's not what you wanted to hear..

You might try and find out if the colour was used on a later model that wasen't lead based. I found some FB and EK colours were used on HR Holdens.
Not much help I know but worth a try.

The colour shouldnt be a problem. The lead was used to help with coverage.
If you want to have a factory type finish do the car in acrylic.
You can achieve a flat finish In two pac. Ive found if you use basecoat clearcoat its easier to slice and buff than striaght solid colour.
If you like orange peel you can go for a two pac finish off the gun. Personally I think its too plastic looking.

Welcome to the forum devlin, you should still be able to get those colours as Bootlegger said , and go acrylic for an original style finish - I did my ute in 2 pack and I wish I had used acrylic - it looks "softer" and not as plasticky as 2 pack. Looks like you are doing a proper job of her too

Yeah agreed, When I painted mine, I gave the paint shop the codes and got my paint mixed in acrylic. I was pretty happy with how it came up. The new paint was a bit darker than the old paint as expected but it shouldn't be a drama if yours is sandblasted back to bare metal.

i think ill go acrylic seems better and was wanting a deeper red anyway the old paint faded and was starting to look orange before soda blasting.

Hi Devlin,
You could try Eastern Paint Supplies (VIC) (03)97612155. Seam to have all the old formula's, the paint is Protec , which is owned by PPG and I am very happy with the final finish.
Shipping to NSW wasn't a problem for them neither.
