Poor man's heater recore

Hi everyone,

I've been quoted $200+ to recore a poor man's heater...

Any suggestions? (don't want an electric heater etc)

...apart from being a richer man?

Stewart

The easiest way around this one is to use an oil cooler from SuperCheap (about $120):

I havn't checked the measurements, but it is likely to fit under the plenum without fouling. If not, the power steering cooler (part number 1009) probably will, and should be about $30 cheaper again:

Thanks Andrew. Rang the place back - going to try and fix the leak rather than recore.

Hi Stewart,

what's leaking exactly? Is it the core or the heater valve? I'm assuming you have a warmaride unit fitted. If you have no luck I have a Hemco fresh air core that bolts directly underneath the plenum flap. It doesn't run a fan and relies on having the vent open to get air across it.
Its shown in the picture below.

Hi Craig

Thanks for that. No warmaride fitted -just a basic heater core as you describe. I'll see how I go with getting the one I have fixed.

Hi Stewart,

If you get desperate I may have a couple of those cores but can't look till tomorrow.
