Hi there,

Iam new to these forums so I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Andrew Phillips I'm 24 years old, live in Adelaide, married with no kids (thank god) and I am obsessed with fb holdens.

It started when I was 10 and we went away camping at a new property to motorbike ride and Dad spotted an fb ute sitting under a tree. He put the idea into my head that done up it would be a cool cruiser. I took a keen intrest in the ute but unfortunately it was completly stuffed so from then on I kept my eye open for one, but alas so far I have yet to owned one.

I have come close a couple of times, once when I was 15 I spotted one in the trader for $1000 but when we went to have a look at it my parents decided it was too far gone and wouldn't let me have it. The other time was back in 2000 I looked at one that was totally original I loved that thing and was even lucky enough to test drive it but when I went back to finalise it and make it myown he told me that someone else had bought it but he was willing to negotiate, so I made an offer higher than he sold it for. This went back and forth a few times but eventually I ran out of money and let it go.

Just recently the fb bug has bit again.... HARD so I am trying my best to be around these beautiful creatures untill I have enough folding stuff to buy one of my own. I know Lenny and Richard who I understand are part of this club and had both these cars in my wedding, I tried to include a picture of them but this website makes it waaay to hard to do so.

Welcome Andrew, hopefully the wannabe will become a gottone soon enough, are you just after a ute or will a sedan or wagon or pannelvan make you just as happy?
Posting pictures is easy once you have done it a couple of times, oh yeh kids are the best, don't knock them till you've tried them ,

Some answers to your questions.

Trev, I started out wanting a ute but I soon realised the sedan is a much more stylish piece of gear than the ute so now it has to be a FB Sedan or nothing !!

Smooth, If you mean the difference in models between the FB/EK don't get me started. I made the mistake when I was about 11, I saw a really nice "FB" ute putt in to the car park in Mannum near the ferry and approched the bloke and said "nice FB" and he just reponded in an unfriendly tone "it's a EK". Man I felt like a absolute tool, so I sat down and studied both models untill my brain hurt. I loved it when someone would say "look at that FB" and I would say it's a EK or vice versa then they would always come back with "what's the difference ?" and I would start off on a tangent, the look on their face hearing all this from a 11 year old kid was priceless.

Stingray, I am from Parafield Gardens, how about everybody else ? is the majority from down south or up north or a good mixture of them both?

I have just started working at Speedy mag wheels we have a wheel called the malibu, if you get a chance have a look at it it suits older cars to the ground and is available in 16x7, 17x7 and 17x8 but you would have to change your stud pattern to HQ which I am pretty sure is 5/120.6

Yes, mate at the same age I was the same. Knowing the difference between the early Holden's was my sport whilst being dragged around Australia for 3 years with my parents in the 1970's. Oh the cars I spotted then! Wish they were still around today. Back then - the local tip "car department" at Mildura was a bloody ripper. I still have a lot of the badges and horn buttons I collected there as an eleven year old.

My oldies were/are &*#@ nuts and this gave me a good grounding on both popular makes. But the Australian Car won my heart. Especially after doing my apprenticeship on them. It wasn't the Holden that won my over - but the &*#@ that lost my support for being ridiculously assembled with bolts that were three inches long when one inch of thread was too much and there bloody 6cyl's with the inaccessible distributors and a thousand other issue's. LOL

The fun for me is the history and the weird things that go with the era. The ever so slight differences between models that are basically the same thing!

Not to mention the accessories... NASCO OK, I'm drooling again. ROFL

Im from Salisbury park

the good thing is the meeting spots for cruises etc
are accessable for everyone
