Having a go at some hand painted signage

Post by hewey »

For our wedding I did some hand painted signage in a rough rustic style. I enjoyed it, and being into vintage style signs and design I wanted to play with it further. These were mostly done with an overhead or stencil for the design, but all painted by hand with regular art brushes. The next steps will be getting some proper lettering and sign writing brushes and doing more original fonts and things.

First project is a vintage inspired Christmas sign for our front window. The timber is recycled pallets with a pine frame, design is one I found online and then traced with an overhead.

These were picked up from a council clean up pile, they look like they were old trays or drawers. These were my brothers Christmas presents, a mooneyes sign and a tongue in cheek sign for his homebrew.

And a kids growth chart styled after a timber ruler, for my nieces and nephew.

Well done mate.
I have an old mate who was an awesome signwriter. He has done all my work for the last twenty years.
A few years ago he got dementia and two weeks ago his wife put him in a home.
I went over and collected all his stuff before his wife threw it all out. Over 40years worth of aeromodelling stuff.
Two truck loads.
I searched everywhere for his brushes. I finally found them.
Im going to sit them in an old can in my workshop in memory of him.
