A mate bought this in the other day for me to resurect.
It had been at a panel shop for four years being done. My mate believed it was being restored properly.
He already has 30 grand into this project.
I dont usually bag other peoples work but this is nothing short of a disgrace.
I have never seen such bad work done by a professional shop.
My mate was almost crying when i dug out all the bog to show him what they had done. It was 3/4 of an inch thick in places.
Ive sourced another roof and quarter. Both of the replacement panels need lots of work but at least i can repair them properly off the car and then fit them.
The original panels are warped all over the place.
All of the hanging panels are repaired just as badly.

Like I have stated in other threads on this forum, true panel beating is a dying art just like the tradesmen that used to do it. :( :( :(

Kinda looks like what you would expect from a $3 000 job not a $30 000 job - thats butchery not panelbeating (no offence Trev    )
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Its happening now, and in years to come there will be no panel beaters just labourers(with panel beating trade quals)pulling off and replacing panels. Not repairing them.
Thats if, in the future there will be cars made from steel and not all plastic, there are more manufacturers tending for plastics used for guards and rear 1/4's as well as bars and outer door skins.
Audi has released a proto composite body, so this technology will be making steel obsolete for vehicle manufacturing.

So god help us in the future for the repair from reputable shops to carry out dent repairs, just bog and paint em, thats all you will get.
And I say that cause I have witnessed so called panel beaters ruin more panels than they have tried to repair by not having the skill to steel it out, and it seems like bog is a cheaper way for the repair shops to get em in and get em out real quick.

At least you will do the job properly Bootlegger, and thats how it should be done. There are very few of us left.

Thats what most want for the lowest price, most cars only last 10 years now. Lots of shops do as above not that they cant unpick spot welds repair and replace panels but most of the time the customer don't want to pay for it. Knock it in and fill it. It'll last a couple of years In his last years my oldman used to work a bit at home he didn't do major restores but would do a sill or 2. One bloke comes around with rusted out sills the old man gave him a price he never come back then told my oldman at the footy club he was a rip off some shop did it for half what the oldman said. about 2 1/2 years later he was asking the oldman about doing the sills the oldman said he's now retired.
How do you give a price on the above job or is it by the hour?

This wasnt a job done to a price. The guy that owns this car just spent $120000 getting a 67 mustang fastback done. There was an open cheque book on this job and the guy believed he had a reputable guy doing the job.
The guy either didnt have a clue or didnt give a shit.
He must have used tweny kilos of bog. I really feel sorry for the guy.
Im going to do the metalwork and then get him to take it back to them and show them.
Its not about me wanking off that im better. Ill be using bog as well but only a fraction of what i pulled out.

I hope for his sake the mustang wasn't done at the same shop. Holly shit he was paying by the hour? I hope you show us some pics of what you find when you unpick it bootlegger.
I once fixed a sill on an xf it was flattened in from hitting some thing he was under the impression we were putting a new 1 on. I welded a heap of plates on it pulled the dints out bogged it up about 6 months later he drove over something else and flattened it in again that brought undone the fact I didn't change the sill, caught out lying.

Hey bootlegger, if you need an apprentice to work on the Monaro I can recommend my grandaughter Georja, helped my work on her dads car and only charged me 5 bucks.

Ive got two apprentices. A six year old and a two year old.
The six year old spends a heap of time in the shed with me.
Last saturday she spend most of the day with me detailing my dodge and inter trucks and one of my boats for a vintage truck show we all went to last sunday.
On sunday the eldest one helped heaps of kids climb in and out of the cockpit of the boat for pics.
The little one helped me strip out an old bedford van last week.
Im not sure how long they will like to hang out with their dad

I hope so sam. I picked the eldest one up from school today and she started singing a song she learnt from her friend about kissing boys.
Getting back to the monaro the roof and quarter im using came back from the blasters.
The roof is fine but i will almost be remaking the quarter. The roof cost $1500 and the quarter $2000 to buy not including the time it to for me to unpick it and get them blasted.
These cars even the ones that arent rusty yet are ticking time bombs. The way the cant rail and quarters are constructed just promote rust.
