I'm presently obtaining a drivers manual for my ek, but in the meantime checked the specifications generously provided by members in this forum. I did a search for "radiator fluid" and "radiator" and nothing specific came up. But under cooling system in the spec's, it says 7.5 litres approx.

I just want to know/ be clear how many litres the radiator holds, as I am going to put anti-freeze in: I will be near the NSW snowies in winter and it drops to minus zero.

Maybe members from Tasmania might know.

As information, I was going to add that while I was in Queensland 5 years ago, I went to Kools radiators in Coopers Plains, Brisbane, who did an excellent job on revitalising my radiator, and put me onto Primax biodegradable anti corrosion radiator treatment and anti-boil/freeze. I have had absolutely no dramas since.

FYI in the ACT, non-biodegradable anti-freeze cant just be tossed down the drain/ on the ground - big fines.

But its a damn shame when a hose clamp comes loose and you loose it all....

Sorry have no idea how much the capacity is.

The cooling system on a manual EK has 8 quarts, I don't have a service manual here with me to check, but I'm assuming that these will be manly imperial quarts, not wimpy US quarts, so that is 9.09 liters, rather than 7.5 liters.

Auto's have a different radiator because they have the transmission cooler incorporated into them and the amount of coolant will be slightly different. If you have a heater, then it will take a few more liters to fill the entire system.

Why is it such a biggie? Just fill until the coolant reaches the bottom of the filler neck. Run the engine with the radiator cap off until the thermostat opens and the cooling system has finished burping itself, then top-up again.

If you're worried about getting the ratio of coolant concentrate to water correct, then just premix in a clean bucket before adding it to the radiator. Make extra and keep it in a bottle in the boot for top-ups.

FYI no biggie ~ I was wanting to know capacity also for cost purposes re the bio-coolant mixes with water and lasts for 2 years or so, and I didn't want to buy more than I actually needed. It is sold in 1l and 5l bottles atm; so the 1l (mixing with 10l water) is ample with sufficient left-over for top-ups.
