Shortening standard diff PICS ADDED

Post by (AUST)Mod »

who can perform this modification in perth for me and how much will it cost? iam only needing it done so i dont have to pump up my guards to fit 15x7 rubber behind. the rims fit it, but will foul the lip if we hit a bump

that alot of effort just for a rim ... i'd be comverting to commodore axles and brakes personally, then the commodore offset should sit the wheel in further

Sammy.

an LJ torana diff will do the trick also
it'll give you the clearance you need
just change the mounting brackets
to accomadate the leafspring rear
a little bit of grinding/welding invoved

Either of those options will be a lot cheaper than having a diff shortened Austmod , the Volvo diff will give you rear disc brakes as well.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

the hr disc front end i have just got put in has deadly brakes, and only needs a toe tap to stop the car with alot of force, so i dont really mind if the rear brakes are still drums onthe new rear end. can anybody give me some pro/cons for each diff? thanks
Andrew

ps hoping to get this done soon so i can come to the cruze on the 18th with nice wheels not crappy whitewalls:)

Hey! lay off the white walls. White walls are cool....

Maybe not if you are getting them from the sidewall scrapping but

Maybe some red bands?

I'm just starting to put together a website for Tyre Banding.
www.tyrebands.com.au (Nothing much there as yet) 'cept for an image of the set I did for the sons van last week before he headed off to the Van Nationals in Brisbane.

i would say the LC/LJ option but this will narrow yor track by 1 1/2" each side which is considerable so you will have to check how much room you have on the inside
Hey smooth what's the go with these white walls you speak of are they the cut in painted type?

  I'd prefer whitewalls over mags anyday!!! Way more clearance when your car is dumped, less harrasment from Mr plod and they look way cooler 8) 8)

Now to your problem, do you know any good rim modifiers. You could probably get the offset of the rim changed cheaper than getting another diff. My Mate had that done to his hopsters to stop one side fouling on the inner gaurd (Compact fairlanes have a factory offset for some unkown reason). Worked a treat and saved alot of time and effort.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

Grab the Quokka, find a torry diff and get the grinder fired up mate, you could get it ready to fit in a night. :D

Ajax Wheels in Melbourne can modify the rims....
Whingeing won't fix it.
