Matt's 61 EK

G'day all,
I stumbled upon fbekholden.com quite some time ago. Back when owning my own EK was still just a dream. It's been a wealth of information so far!
However, I've only just registered, so thought I'd better say hi :)

My family (father and grandfather) have always been car nuts, more specifically, holden nuts. As such I have been tinkering with, modifying, driving and repairing cars for as long as I can remember. I think it's safe to say it's hereditary.

My love for EK's first started when dad came home from work one day (when I was 16) and mentioned that a bloke he worked with was looking at getting rid of his EK, and suggested that it might be suitable for my first car. I loved the sound of this! Unfortunately, the deal never eventuated, and I ended up with an '83 JD Camira instead haha
I've been on the hunt ever since.

Fast forward 13 yrs. I finally bought one!
The Mrs took some convincing, but one look at it, and she couldn't say no. I was stoked.
It comes with conditions though... I've been instructed to part with my '71 datto 1600 project. Fair's fair I guess...

Anyway, it's a one owner Castile Green/snowcrest white 1961 Special.
It's sat outside, next to an FJ, un-driven for the best part of 25yrs.
The owner bought it brand new for his wife in Jan 1962. He drove the FJ, and she drove the EK.

Unfortunately his wife got dementia, and was unable to drive for a long time before she passed away.

While his wife was unwell, Pat (the previous owner) decided to do a little bit of restoration/fixer-up-ing, ready for the day she was well enough to drive again.
Unfortunately, that day never came.

It's in dire need of a paint job, and a very small amount of surface rust repair work to return her to her former glory, but all things considered, it's in amazing condition.

I only have the carsales pictures at the moment, as I'm away for work for a few weeks.
I'll keep this thread up to date with progress, and more pictures when I get home.

Thanks for the welcome mate.

A warmaride, original (or at least period) radio, venetians and visor are on the wanted list.
I've gone a little wild with modifying previous cars. This one is staying completely stock.

What a great EK, I love the colour combo as well. It's always nice knowing the history of a car. Welcome to the forum.

It sure is.
I'm lucky enough to find one with a fairly straight forward history.
Bought new from Sydney Atkinson Motors in January 1962.
One owner for 51 years.
Bought by me in Jan '13

Nice score  . I bet the old owner would've been a bit sad to see the car go.

Their FJ looks pretty nice too

It was an extremely emotional day. However, he's 85 years old, and is happy to see the car go to someone that appreciates it.

The FJ is nice.
They've both sat where you see them in the google maps picture above since about 1990. In Fremantle (on the coast) none the less. The sun and salt have definitely not been kind to the paintwork.

Gday Matt
Welcome to the forum
Interesting to see an Adelaide built car, sold new in Sydney, that has lived in Perth
Great buy though, it should clean up nicely 8)
Cheers

Like you said, the guy would've been happy to see it go to someone wqho'd appreciate it  , rather than someone who'll chop it up for parts, or give it a polish and sell it for a profit. I remember buying a 1 owner XB Falcon off a mate of my dad's. The guy cried his eyes out when he gave me the keys

Thommo, that yard is in Perth. I think Sydney is just part of the name
