Hi everyone, i am still a little rusty at this.
I would like to convert my EK ute with HR disc front end to power steering but not sure which way to go.
Is it best to use a Steering Rack? if so is there one that fits without haveing to mod it length?
Also can i change my steering column length? my steering wheel sits way too high from the dash.
Thanks for the feedback.

An easy way to shorten your steering column is to use a HR one, they are shorter  .
Why the power steering? I don't find it hard to steer these old girls.

Trev, it's more for the misus than me, besides it'll be Easter around the city were we drive. Sydney is a pain in the rear. I am in no hurry but thought when I get to the steering I would consider, depending on the options available. I will have to look into the HR steering column thanks mate.

A good alignment and 185/195's running at the higher end of the recommended pressure and all will be fine. My misses drives mine around without too much effort.

Would you recomend a Torana rack, would that make the steering lighter?

Honestly nope, nothing wrong with a well maintaned standard/HR frontend. Unless of course you want to do a whole heap of front end work.

Hey mate ,original HR power steering is an option but very limited numbers were made and not. Yet reproduced.
I've heard of commodore racks being used but not the perfect fit.

Commodore racks are too wide and all give you lots of bump steer, TE/F Cortina racks will work apparently ?

Sunnytim the steering wheel is a sports timber wheel, might have to take your advice and find an original to put back on. The advice has been great on this forum thanks a lot guys. By the way Fingers says that the Cortina Ghia TE TD power rack fits without mods.

try a stock wheel as has been mentioned it may even move the steering wheel away from you a bit but it will not make it a one handed car to drive around town, ohh and don't put 13x8 wheels on the front you'll never steer it then :ewink: put up some pics it if it's modified it may also allready have a EJ-HR collum fitted i know it's one of the things i do
re the cortina rack i've only ever heard of one other early holden with this done (don't know any details) but do remember hearing it being done as a power steer conversion on LH/LX toranas

Thanks Mike,
The steering wheel (small sports timber) is very high up and the column doesnt apear standard, I will try and take a pic and post it. There is no more adjustment to push it back, thats why i thought i would change the column to get it closer to the dash.
I have dismissed putting 13's on her. Thanks for the help Mike.

Another option is an electric power steering setup out of a late model jappa - they are starting to become more common.

I think your right Tim, too many mods.

Blackly given up on power steering for now, I'll just have to work the biceps a little longer.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
