Wheel size for EK ute
Wheel size for EK ute
Hi can anyone please tell me the biggest and widest wheel size that will fit to an EK ute, and up what model is the stud pattern the same as EK?
It has a HR disc front end. Thanks.

The stud pattern is the same up to the HK,HT & HG series, but looking for the biggest/widest wheels takes a bit more thought before laying down your dollarsMuscl wrote:Hi can anyone please tell me the biggest and widest wheel size that will fit to an EK ute, and up what model is the stud pattern the same as EK?

In particular the back wheels, is the ute running stock grey or red or even a V6??
What gearbox and more importantly what diff ratio has a lot to do with final wheel choice, do you want to run 13,14 or 15" rims? You wouldn't want to run to tall a set of back wheels e.g. 15 x 8" with 70 profile tyres with a stock grey motor and diff ratio
Have a look at this gear/drive calculator and you'll see what I mean http://www.kabamus.com/garage/gears.html
Also you have to look at ride height, is the ute lowered?
If you post more details of your ute I'm sure you'll get more responses

Re: Wheel size for EK ute
hey Muscl, for what it's worth, here's a pic of a ute with 15" steelies... I think they were 7" with 215/60 tyres. I didn't look underneath the rear so cant say what diff it was running, but fairly sure it had an HR disc frontend. Dont know what stud pattern either...
It is apparently possible (but fairly expensive) to have 15" rims welded to HK/T/G centres, but be careful with the wheel nuts - they had a different chamfer angle from HT onwards (I think??) even though the stud pattern is the same, and you should use the correct nuts to suit the rims...
The cheap easy way is to use 14" HK/T/G rims, either stock (5") or 6 or 7". You can then select tyre widths and profiles to get the gearing you want using the calculator Mick suggested. Note that the offset of HK stock rims is different to HT/G stock rims...
Maximum tyre width you can get under the rear without any rubbing depends on amount of lowering, rim diameter and tyre profile... as a rough guide, I run 215/70/14 on the back (about 21/2" lowered) but some people get 235s under there with little or no problems (probably lower profile or 13" rims). You MUST get the offsets spot-on though if you want maximum tyre width without pumping the guards out/rolling the lips/tubbing etc.
The front is obviously more restricted in width without rubbing and depends very much on amount of lowering, what brakes, and therefore what rim diameter and offset to clear brakes...
I might have another pic somewhere of this ute from the front if you want...

Re: Wheel size for EK ute
Thanks for the reply guys,
Mike,
I am running a red, 179 with an Ausie 4 speed on the floor. not sure of the gear ratio. The ute is not lowered.
I was hoping to run 14X8 on the back & 13X8 on the front, not sure?
Jack
Great photo mate.
You have both given me great information and lots to think about and consider, thank you very much.

Good post it has also helped me out
Re: Wheel size for EK ute
I think you will struggle to find wide 13" tyres.Muscl wrote:I was hoping to run 14X8 on the back & 13X8 on the front, not sure?

Thommo, do you think they will foul somewhere?
If I cant fit them then i will fitt 14's all round.
I will give it a try and see.

Re: Wheel size for EK ute
I had 215/75/14's on 7 inch rims on my old wagon that is lowered a little , now Oli's .
It has an LJ Torana rear end in it.
I did have a 225/60/14 on as a spare while I had a Tyre on order.
I spent a bit of time and money getting the offset rite on these rims, and had to Pump the inner guards where they rubbed.

Re: Wheel size for EK ute
It all depends on rim offset and ride hight as to wether it will foul.Muscl wrote:Thommo, do you think they will foul somewhere?
A 13 x 8 on the front would make it a bitch to steer, plus
you wont find wide 13's, probably 215's at the biggest.
cheers
