New EK Wagon Additional Info

Hi guys,

As you would have read in the post below we are new to EK land. We have no history of the car but recieved advice on the forum that the attached images may shed some light on the car?

Has anyone gone through the process of fitting seatbelts to the rear seats? My wife Naomi is on the case trying to find out if we can get belts out of a latter holden and fit them in the rear so that the kids can enjoy too! I might even put in a child seat restraint for our 2yo. has this been done before?

For your seatbelt query, the best bet is to use the Search function (top right hand corner of the forum), as quite a few guys have done the seatbelt trick before. This post might whet your appetite (though the legal side is very NSW-centric ):

Rear belts can be Frankensteined, or made in-pillar. Retractrables are possible, with some guys mounting on the rear wheel arch and others using a rear cross-bar. I've seen some a lot of variation in the Frankenstein bolt location depending on the belt type used. Hemco make good aftermarket belts - many signatories will not let you reuse old Holden belts (even from a late model Conformadore).

My advice is to work backwards - find out where you have to get the seatbelts approved, find out what that approver is comfortable with, and then start asking on the forum if anyone has done it that way. If you are less handy with the tools, there are places that can do it for you (or at least in NSW), though you need a healthy wallet going that way.

There should be no reason to have bolts sticking out with rear belts, you can get your hand up inside the pillar to put a backing plate and retaining nut in there .

Geeze who would of thought adding two rear seatbelts would be such a headach! I think im going to dust off the overalls and give it a crack myself. I also want to get the seals to go around the two front windows. They have either completely worn out or missing all together. Is rare spares the best option?

If you mean the little rectangular 1/4 vent windows, then yes, Rares is a good option. Be aware that the rubber is two piece - a C-shaped bit that goes on the window, and a little straight bit that goes on the frame... a few Rares distributors sometimes forget to give you the straight bit. The straight bit goes on without the steel edging that the original has - use superglue (Loctite 454 is a good option).

To do the job properly is a mongrel task that involves pulling out some of the window internals - there are a few posts on here that show step0by-step how to do it. The nuts inside the door are often rusty, and have a tendency to snap off it not WD40'd/gently forced (small BFH). There is a half-arsed way of doing the replacement without pulling the doors apart (not that I did it ) that involves cutting the rubber and supergluing it back together. If you do it this way, there is a fair chance that the rubber will not seat in the door frame properly due to incorrect adjustment of the 1/4 vent pivot (don't ask me how I know ).

Thanks Harv, no I mean the actual windows not the little 1/4 vent windows. they rattle around when we drive and seem to be missing all together.

it seems as these would have been a brush seal rather than a rubber? as they are so worn its hard to tell?

Also, I need to try and fix this indicator that stops working all of the time. Someone mentioned a dirty earth, without pulling the car apart, can someone tell me where to find the earth? will it be behind the dash or the indicator lens?

Hodgo,

Unscrew the phillips-head screws on the indicator lense, and remove the bulb. The most common crook earth for blinkers is corrosion or dirt between the bulb and either the spring contacts or the fitting wall.
