Whitewall tyre size for spats

Hi All,

I am wanting to put whitewall tyres on my EK and I have original 13inch rims ready to go on. At the moment I have 13inch rims on that are an inch wider than originals with 185 tyres on. I have tried to fit the spats, but there is no way they are ging to fit. My spare is an original rim with 165's on and the spat fitted with no problems. I have been told that newer radial 165's no longer have the correct rolling diameter and have to fit 185/80R13 tyres.
Is there anyone out there with whitewalls on 13 inch original rims and spats ?
Any help would be great.

Cheers
Glen

Sounds like the inch wider rim is causing the issue. You need to make the rim have less of a dish to move it away from the spat.

EK Dreamer's old car had 185/70/13's with spats. I'm presuming she had no issues

I ran 215/75/14 Tyres on my old wagon with spats only scrapped when going round sharp corners  .
Get the offset of your wheels rite and your fine.
