timing on a 138 grey

Nearly ready to kick the old girl in the guts.
Only problem is is the timing.
Flywheel has been off, distributor has been out. Just not sure if the flywheel was put back on "correctly" so not sure if the timing marks are correct.
So, i just need to know how to to be sure its timed correctly.
How to make sure number 1 is on compession stroke e.t.c.

Pull the rocker cover off, then using the fan, turn the motor over until cylinder #1 is in the firing position. This can be seen by looking at cylinder #6 (the one closest to the firewall). Watch carefully until you can see one of the cylinder #6 rockers rising (and just stopping), and the other cylinder #6 rocker just starting to fall. This is referred to as cylinder #6 “rocking” (i.e. one rocker just finishing and one just starting). Check the timing mark by looking at the back of the motor under the distributor. In the timing “window” you should be able to see a white mark on the flywheel (this is the timing ball – it is often marked with white paint to make it easier to see). If the timing mark is not in the window, spin the fan a little bit either way and check - the mark should not be too far outside the window (if you have to turn the fan more than about 3/4 of a turn either way to see the mark, something is wrong).

There has been a small hiccup in the starting of the grey. I'll start another thread on it
